Framingham’s ban on thin, single-use plastic bags at checkout will take effect Jan. 1. Bags without handles used to contain dry cleaning, newspapers, produce, meat, and bulk foods are still allowed. All retail establishments such as grocery stores, convenience stores, and pharmacies that provide a checkout bag to customers must comply with the bylaw. Details are available at www.framinghamma.gov/BYOB.
