A company formed by residents of Prudence Island has asked for permission to take over ferry service from the company that currently runs it. A&R Marine has asked the Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission to grant it permission to take over the service. The utilities commission will consider the application on Tuesday. The current operator, Prudence Ferry, had previously told the utilities commission it would stop service on Dec. 1. Later, it said service would continue. Prudence Island is a part of the town of Portsmouth. Ferry service connects the island to Bristol.
