The 250th Anniversary Celebration Committee has approved numerous events for the town’s yearlong celebration in 2015. Committee co-chairman David Clifton said in an interview that the kickoff will take place Jan. 1, with a ball drop, ice sculptures, and other activities in the town center. The schedule also includes an arts and music festival in May, a black-tie-optional ball June 20, a lighting of Lake Massapoag with flares and a mini fireworks display Sept. 19, a downtown parade Sept. 20, and a talent contest in October, he said. Community service projects led by the Rotary Club will also be part of the celebration, he said. About 50 people have volunteered for the planning committee. On the top of their list, Clifton said, is soliciting donations from merchants; sponsors can have their names printed on banners that will be displayed on street lights.
