Police said a bus driver for a day care for dogs suffered burns while trying to save two trapped canines after the vehicle they were in caught fire. The driver rescued one dog but another died. Police Sergeant James Mills said that a 911 call was made Tuesday afternoon reporting a small bus on fire in a parking lot. Mills said the driver of the Gulliver’s Doggie Daycare bus called his supervisor to report the smell of smoke inside the bus. The front of the bus caught fire and the flames quickly spread. Mills said the driver suffered burns to his hands and his back while trying to retrieve the dogs. He was taken to a hospital for treatment. Mills said the driver, whose name was not released, ‘‘did everything he could’’ to save both animals.
