Feels districts favor other congressmen

US Rep. Barney Frank accused Beacon Hill lawmakers of drawing the congressional map in a way that shortchanged him in favor of Edward J. Markey and Stephen F. Lynch.

jwinboston: Tip of the iceberg! The website is downright embarrassing (for the Globe). Does anyone know how to eliminate articles from your "my saved" section? And when do you suppose new paragraphs will be allowed? It's amateur hour at the Globe. And they're about to ask us to pay more!

For once Barney has told the truth.....the probability of his re-election is unlikely. Nice to see you're retiring and believe me we are all much better off without you. We can't afford to keep you and your bright ideas any longer. What a waste of humanity!

showing his true colors - a pampered liberal. I read that his district was ranked in the top 10 of the most gerrymandered districts in the US.

This seems like as good a place as any to comment on what a pain in the neck the Globe's new website is and how difficult it is to use. Every time I click like or dislike on a comment the page reformats and bounces me back to the headline. I then have to scroll back down the entire page to return to my previous position and if I want to like or dislike the next comment I have to go through the same rigamarole all over again. It would also be nice if the typeface that I'm looking at right now as I type into the comment box was large for me to actually read what I'm typing.

I totally understand Barney's frustration over be gerrymandered, again. People need to remember that his current district, which is clearly ridiculous, was designed primarily to knock him out of office. Didn't work then and if he had chosen to stay and run it's unlikely that it would have worked this time. On the other hand, considering that his intention was to only run for one more term I don't see any reason why a great effort should have been made to shape the districts to his particular advantage. I will be sorry to see him go, but I think he made the right decision and I am looking forward to the future unfettered Barney running his mouth on anything and everything.

Barney, like the rest of the pathetic, doctrinaire lefties "representing" Massachusetts, is a walking advertisement for term limits.

Astounding quotes by Frank. It's as if this was all recorded without his knowing. What I thought was just a hollow, dumb, fool of a man turns out to be a bitter and selfish one too. The other quote that was left out of the story because even the Globe may have sensed this went over the top was something to the effect of: I will not make myself go out and ask for their (Republicans) votes because I can't stand pretending to be nice to people I hate". Nice.

Maybe now Obama can appoint Barney to run Fannie or Freddie or maybe even the FHA whose demise Barney can help accelerate.

Regarding Numeral's comment: Maybe who ever wins this seat, ..., will work for the constituents and the country and not just re-election. Now that is funny. Who ever heard of a politician working for a constituency? Maybe, in some fantasy world, someone will run for office promising to stay in for only one term and keep that promise, but that is the only situation where one's constituency is served rather than one's re-election. I admire your idealism, and no, I am not saying that to be snarky. Systemic, on the other hand, is blathering on about how much he wants a gutless, Republican political coward instead of a gutless, Democratic political coward. Snark intended. It's not my district, but some fresh faces, regardless of party affiliation, are a good thing.

What a whiner. He would have to, like the rest of the world, work to keep his job. So instead he's taking his ball and going home. Acouple of things;if the Dodd-Frank act is such a good thing, why does it need so much defending? If Republicans controlled the state legislature would Frank and the Globe think redistricting that ensures a particular group gets more of a voice than others such a good thing? I will not miss this mean spirited grump who gets away with insults that sound like a snarky middle school student. Maybe who ever wins this seat, and in spite of the media it is not "Barney Frank's seat", will work for the constituents and the country and not just re-election.

Barney is right about email; it is a nuisance. And he's right about Ed Markey taking care of Ed Marley; what else is new. But he's just wrong about the Redistricting Committee having either the ability OR some sort of obligation to "take care" (emphasis mine) of him. There were three overriding principles in this redistricting: 1. The Senate was not going to pass a bill that blew up Niki Tsongas' district. The Senate President would have never allowed it. Accordingly, there was not much that could be done in the North Shore or Merrimack Valley districts. 2. There was a huge fear of Constitutional challenge if they didn't ensure a Majority-Minority district. That eliminated the ability to give Barney some areas he would have liked. 3.B

Poor Barney Frank. He was deprived of the opportunity to pick his own constituents/voters.

More evidence that Frank is nothing but the next in a very long line of gutless, Democratic, political cowards. Add Frank's hateful comments about Gingrich and Frank paints himself as a bitter, nasty, old man. How sad for Frank that his legacy will be the ugly coarseness he contributed to the National dialogue. How disgraceful for the Democratic Party of Party Over Country that Frank's bile is applauded in lock-step by the Party's members.
