On candidates, N.H. evangelicals finding little unity

Many distrustful of Romney, wary of Gingrich history

The 2012 presidential race is notable for the number of candidates who are actively appealing to evangelical voters - and the inability of voters to coalesce around any of them. The trend holds true in New Hampshire, which holds the nation’s first primary Jan. 10. The top-polling candidates in New Hampshire and nationally are Gingrich and Romney. But some evangelical Christians are distrustful of Romney’s Mormon faith or turned off by Gingrich’s personal history.
