7 teenagers arrested in bus attack on girl


MIAMI - Seven central Florida teenagers were arrested after authorities said they punched and kicked a 13-year-old until she was unconscious while on a school bus. The victim told authorities that Friday was her first time riding the bus and no one would let her sit down. About 75 students were riding the bus bound for a middle school in Ocala, a rural city north of Orlando. The victim said someone threw a shoe at her and she threw one back, according to an arrest report.


Priest tells youths: learn from shooting

BROWNSVILLE - A priest urged teens attending yesterday’s funeral for an eighth-grader who was shot by police after pointing a pellet gun at them to learn from his experience and “get out of trouble.’’ The Rev. Jorge Gomez spoke in English and Spanish to hundreds of people at the funeral of 15-year-old Jaime Gonzalez. Police say Gonzalez was shot twice in the torso Wednesday after refusing officers’ orders to drop the gun.


2 visiting hospital are shot to death

FORT OGLETHORPE - A Tennessee man told his wife and mother-in-law “they’d be sorry’’ before he shot and killed them in a Georgia hospital Friday while others watched in a crowded waiting room, police said. Investigators said the suspect, James Benson, 59, of Chattanooga, is a security guard who was separated from his wife, who was visiting a relative. He was charged with murder.
