Edwards trial delayed for heart surgery

The criminal trial of John Edwards has been delayed until at least March because he has a heart condition that requires surgery, a federal judge said yesterday. Judge Catherine C. Eagles said Edwards’s recovery from the unspecified ailment could be threatened if he stood trial this month, as scheduled, on campaign finance charges. The judge said she was heeding the recommendations of Edwards’s cardiologist.
