Mitt Romney, who rarely discusses his ancestry, has repeated a striking comment in Florida in recent days to soften his rhetoric about immigration and try to win over the crucial Hispanic voting bloc. “My dad was born in Mexico,’’ Romney says at many campaign stops in Florida, expressing empathy and solidarity with immigrant families. It contrasts with his rhetoric in places such as Iowa, where he decried what he called efforts to provide “amnesty’’ to the nation’s 12 million illegal immigrants.

nah, i'd rather read about the ties of our blithering whatever bagman turned mayor which all came from the late FILENES BASEMENT. ma
He's been "unemployed," and his dad was born in Mexico. Wow, what a guy! He's everybody's prez!
Romney touting his Mexican roots with Latin voters is the height of campaign absurdity. His father was a Mormon in exile, not a Mexican. It's like claiming since my father was born in a hospital, you should call me 'doctor'. The best the Repulicans can do? A tone-deaf plastic cut-out whose strongest claim to the party's ticket is that he's not as crazy as the alternatives. This is the ultimate legacy of the cynical political strategies of Harry Dent, Carl Rove, and Roger Ailes, and appears to be building to a final 'inherit the wind' climax.
So lets see...homes in seven different states over the course of his life so seven home-states...Mormonism is the same as Christianity so two main faiths...multiple positions on many varied issues...and NOW TWO countries, one conveniently Hispanic, what a lucky guy! So glad that he never got one of those pink slips he talked about! He really is one of us!
True Mitt style. Not a complete lie, just misleading enough to get Mtt what Mitt wants. We should be terrifed of electing this man to another public office.
Say anything. Do anything.
lordchaucer is typical of the slimier of the Glob's leftist leaning lefties... twist it all so it makes a Republican look crappy... Do have to admit that Romney's saying only that his father was born in Mexico does leave a bit of a 'draw your own conclusion' interpretation. But his full explanation on the Fox news network, as the Glob reports, seems to put the situationin its full context. And the Glob's own twist to liken George Romney to Cubans fleeing Castro's takeover of Havana in 1959 is as smarmy as the Glob writer tries to make Romney's limited statement that his father was born in Mexico, with no explanation. The Glob does explain that the Mormons fled to Mexico were doing so for religious reason, and that they kept their U.S. citizenship. And it sppears also, that Romney said he is not Hispanic, but is an Anglo and his family has been thus. Jeb Bush's wire is a Hispanic Mexicana, and would certainly be a better asset in the poltiical sense than Romney's father, grandfather, etc. And it is nice to see that the Glob writer does not try to twist Romney into the roie of sympathizer of polyandry (polygamy, joker).
You can try to twist it into some vast left wing conspiracy, "boatwrote," but the truth is Romney is using this line over and over again in Florida, without any further explanation. It is, plain and simple, a lie without telling a lie. It's typical Romney, not typical of the Globe. But thanks for supporting the paper.
So, if there hadn't been a "revolution" in Mexico a hundred years ago, would Romney now be running for president of Mexico? It's true that his ancestors did move to Mexico for religious reasons. But, would they have stayed there had their lifestyle not been "interrupted"? Some of the extended family apparently still does stay there.
It's actually the "Globe". I think you have a problem with your "e" button, bro. Just turn it upside down and give it a good whack. Works every time.
Also, are there rightist leaning lefties? If yes, how far right do they need to lean before they're "moderate"? Thank you.
Yesterday, Romney did quite well among Hispanic voters. Funny how that works. Liberal and statists assume that conservatives are racists, and yet, Hispanic voters beg to differ, and vote for conservatives anyway. How confusing will it be when Romney chooses an Hispanic to become his Vice Presidential Nominee. Why can't people act in accordance with our preconceived notions about them and live by the stereotypes libs love to impose upon them? Darn them!
