Spending plan meets withering GOP criticism

President Obama’s budget proposal was met with predictable election-year hostility from congressional Republicans, who deemed the $3.8 trillion spending plan ridden with gimmicks and tax increases that they said would further threaten the still-fragile economy. With the presidential campaign looming large, the president’s proposal was virtually dead on arrival, with congressional Republicans unlikely to go along with tax increases on the country’s millionaires and billionaires.
