Hundreds of women locked arms and stood in silence outside the Virginia State Capitol on Monday to protest a wave of anti-abortion legislation coursing through the General Assembly. Capitol and state police officers, there to ensure order, estimated the crowd to be more than 1,000 people - mostly women. The crowd formed a human cordon through which legislators walked before Monday’s floor sessions of the Republican-controlled legislature.

It is the personification of hypocritical when the right screams about the perils of government intervention in our lives and then turns around and promulgates exactly for that when they demand the government literally mandate what women with own bodies and lives. Apparently big government is just dandy when it's on your side of the argument. This is cognitive dissonance at its finest. These people are disgusting.

The legislation against access to contraception and to criminalize abortion will only lead to more abortions, and if they are no longer legal, then we are back to back-alley procedures resulting in infections, possible infertility and sometimes death. People with memories of those days do NOT want to go back to those dark ages. Men with means will still have access to abortion for their mistresses, daughters, etc., no matter what they preach publicly. It is poorer women (i.e., most of us) who will be impacted the most. On the plus side, though, more women will be motivated to enter politics!
as a male, I have always been appalled at the idea of older, conservative white male Republicans (has anyone heard of Democrats sponsoring such bills?) making decisions affecting a woman's choice to have control over own body....
If the Republicans win the White House, abortion will be eventually overturned by their Supreme Court appointees.
