Diligent delegate-hunting work by Mitt Romney even in far-flung locales a illustrates a growing theme of the Republican nominating contest: While the former Massachusetts governor has failed to ignite the GOP base, he has methodically extended his lead among delegates. Even on Tuesday night, when Rick Santorum secured defining victories in Mississippi and Alabama, Romney scored more delegates by winning in Hawaii and American Samoa.
