As Illinois votes, Mitt Romney focuses on Obama

Santorum slams Wall St. background

In the final hours before a primary in this delegate-rich state, Mitt Romney said his economic background made him uniquely qualified for the presidency while Rick Santorum said that experience only made the former Massachusetts governor beholden to Wall Street financiers. Romney said the Democratic incumbent’s policies amounted to an “assault on freedom that could damage our economy and the well-being of American families for decades to come.’’ “Our freedom is never safe - because unelected, unaccountable regulators are always on the prowl,’’ Romney said.
