Lynch reverses field on Afghan mission

Congressman’s visits turn hawk into critic

Representative Stephen F. Lynch, who won his seat in a special election on Sept. 11, 2001, has traveled to the war zones in Iraq and Afghanistan 21 times, among the highest of any member of Congress. The excursions had shaped a decidedly more hawkish view than his Bay State colleagues about the prospects in the decadelong war against the Taliban in Afghanistan. But now, Lynch is breaking with the administration’s policy and calling on President Obama to speed up the American withdrawal from Afghanistan.
