High court rejects Guantanamo appeals

The Supreme Court on Monday refused to hear appeals from seven men contesting their imprisonment at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The Supreme Court has not heard a Guantanamo case since Boumediene v. Bush in 2008. That ruling gave prisoners at Guantanamo a “meaningful opportunity’’ to challenge their detentions in court. Human rights groups contended that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit had not been faithful to the instruction to weigh challenges by detainees seriously.
