Former governor Mitt Romney’s administration in 2006 blocked publication of a state antibullying guide for Massachusetts public schools because officials objected to use of the terms “bisexual’’ and “transgender’’ in passages about protecting certain students from harassment, according to state records and interviews with current and former state officials.
Romney aides said publicly at the time that publication of the guide had been delayed because it was a lengthy document that required further review. But an e-mail authored in May of that year by a high-ranking Department of Public Health official - and obtained last week by the Globe through a public records request - reflected a different reason.

I don't know why anyone would be the least bit surprised that Romney did anything he could to thwart social progress for the LGBT community in Massachusetts. Essentially, he is a bishop in the Mormon church who, by church law, is required to follow their tenets to remain in good standing. It was the Mormon church that financially supported Prop 8 in California and overturned marriage equality there. Voting for Romney is not dissimilar to voting for a catholic bishop to represent our country. Pretending otherwise so we don't appear intolerant to religious freedom is not prudent. The LDS church deserves our full scrutiny for such an important decision as selecting our President. If Obama was subject to critical observation regarding his relationship with Jeremiah Wright, why isn't Romney subject to the same scrutiny regarding LDS doctrine and how it obviously shapes his policy decisions?
It seems that every day the Globe will publish another nugget of information designed to hurt Romney in his run for president. This is not news. Romney has about no chance of winning Massachusetts, so it is really just a waste of time. Bullying will not end because the government prints a pamphlet about it.
Bullying doesn't happen at rich private schools - why would Rombo even care? Gays and transgenders? Will any of them ever vote for him? Think about it - we've become a very mean country, and it's gonna get worse. The dude was a bully for crissakes, but he'll solve Iran and North Korea?
This is off topic, but did you know Glenn Beck makes 20 million per year! Hey, I'm gonna tell my son to become a right wing fraud who has never created anything and just spew fear and hate! Woo hoo!
Thays right. Elect the Mittster and for four years we will put our heads in the sand and pretend everything doesn't exist.
@atomicdesigner... it's coming. he will be hit hard on the mormon issue. You want to push that starting in September.

Did you hear Mitt Romney defining "Marriage?" Did you hear him define his Mormon beliefs, as the same as yours at the Evangelical Christian College? Did you hear his fellow Mormons say that by prophets "Mitt Romney is to ride on a white horse into the White House?" Ok you hear what you hear, do you believe what they say just because you hear it. They think you must believe it! What you often do not hear is the truth not told. Do you believe as the Mormons do that God created Jesus and Satan as equals and that they are brothers? He will not let you hear the truth, he will only tell you what he wants you to believe is true. Like the time he stated he created 100,000 jobs. Only he didn't tell you most of them were created in the out-sourced countries he sent them to. Globe: It appears that your .pdf is of the Patrick administrations guide, not Romney's. O Copy Editor, where art thou?
Are you seriously trying to turn Obama's own account of an incident during elementary school recess into bullying? Here's the source material. -- "I'm not her boyfriend!" I shouted. I ran up to Coretta and gave her a slight shove; she staggered back and looked up at me, but still said nothing. "Leave me alone!" I shouted again. And suddenly Coretta was running, faster and faster, until she disappeared from sight. Appreciative laughs rose around me. Then the bell rang, and the teachers appeared to round us back into class. -- The "posse" was the kids who'd been teasing them both.

So, your response to Romney having held back an anti-bullying law because it contained language protecting LGBT people is that as a little boy Obama pushed a little girl on the playground? Is that supposed to somehow justify Romney's actions? Or is it somehow supposed to counter Romney as a high school senior holding down another student and cutting his hair because he was different? Either way, it's pathetic.
who cares. And Obama is a member of the New party
O was NEVER subjected to REAL criticism
The irony of your post is classic. Don't elect him because he is a Mormon but do not discriminate
If this man wins I will seriously look at a move to Europe
Sadly, you are probably right. You expound daily on how we should live. How should we end, or at least discourage, bullying, or in this case, persecution based on sexual orientation? Knowing how skittish you can be, even from Virginia, I don't suspect that you will enlighten us with an answer. But I will advise you that the BG will continue to run factual pieces which show Governor Romney in an unfavorable light, at least in Massachusetts. As I've no doubt mentioned in the past, if you no longer wish to subsidize their biased views, you should cancel your subscription and sign up with the Boston Herald, which tends to publish a more balanced point of view when it comes to Governor Romney. For instance, they know that he was only kidding when he organized a gang to restrain and assault that classmate at his prep school who he thought needed a haircut/ Another "regular white guy" (sorry, can't help it, love it when you repeated use that phrase)
esfsdfsdf, this person TSW is not someone that you exchange ideas with and expect a true dialogue. Honestly, I don't think that you want to know his story, but I strongly suspect that it is small, sad, and hateful. He exhibits a pathological hatred of Obama and anyone remotely identified with keeping an open mind. I confess, it's difficult to ignore someone so persistent and toxic, but I'm afraid that he thrives on the negative attention that he engenders, much like the dog who seems to take scolding as an encouragement to defecate in the living room.
Here's what the Globe did not print today (and won't print). Senate wants Obama Administration to appoint a special counsel to investigate the massive and unprecident SECURITY LEAKS of CLASSIFIED MILITARY SECRETS regarding the operation against bin Laden and the release of information about covert intelligence against Iran's nuclear program. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The LEAKS were given to a reporter from the Globe's parent, the NT Times. These LEAKS have caused and will cause the deaths and imprisonment of people who put their lives on the line to aid the US. __________________________________________________________________________ And why were these LEAKS made? Obviously to make Obama look good on foreign policy. These LEAKS constitute TREASON, as they harm the US. They also harm America's ally, Israel.
