WASHINGTON — Former Navy SEAL Matt Bissonnette says SEALs raiding Osama bin Laden’s Pakistan hideout last year shot him dead instead of capturing him because his arms were hidden and may have been holding weapons.
Appearing Sunday on CBS’ ‘‘60 Minutes,’’ Bissonnette says one SEAL fired after seeing a man’s head poking into a hallway.

"Sorry, folks, we didn't bring him out alive ". That was the best possible result . What were we planning to do with him alive? Something like the Neuremburg Trials? Zero casualties among innocent civilians. Compare with what it took to eliminate Hitler. If any form of warfare can be clean, the SEALS' exploit was immaculate.
Why is the Globe printing his real name? This places him and the whole team in jeopardy. Reckless journalism!
It was FoxNews that announced his name to the world. Some news outlets have chosen to keep the pseudonym, while others, since the real name is out, have chosen to use the real name. The Globe appears to be in the latter category. It's pretty easy to find out the name at this point.
It's not really clear why Owen/Bissonette decided to write this book anyhow. He claims "some of the profit" will go to veterans charities, but how much is "some"? In the absence of any other motive at this point, it feels pretty self-serving, even if the author appears "humble" on TV.
President Obama is self-serving with his attempts to capitalize on the death of Osama bin Laden with his campaign ads and the numerous interviews that followed the Navy seal's successful mission.
NEW PARAGRAPH: Also, for the sake of President Obama and all the forgetful voters who can't remember four years ago . . . it was President GEORGE BUSH's command and mission to track down Osama bin Laden following the 9/11 attack.
The only reason this book is controversarial is because the true picture is not what this President has been telling you.
