Survey gauges US sexual diversity

NEW YORK — A new Gallup survey, said to be the largest of its kind, estimates that 3.4 percent of American adults identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender.

The findings, released Thursday, were based on interviews with more than 121,000 people. Gallup said it is the largest study aimed at determining the LGBT population.

The survey represents those who "identify" as LGBT. There are still an undetermined percent who remain in the closet for a myriad of reasons. Nothing in this survey conveys that fact. Look how many public persons were forced out of hiding because of being caught and some of them continued to deny being gay in the face of incontrovertible evidence. Senator "I am not gay" comes to mind. It still remains that those who are out and open deserve the same legal rights as the 96.6% who are profess to be or are declared as straight.
