It was Halloween night, and the Obama campaign operation was in full motion on the campus of Ohio State University. A bubbly campaign volunteer was calling out. And dozens of students began to line up, ready to board a chartered bus to a precinct in a strip mall and cast the first ballots of their life. “It definitely seems like a myth that students have stopped caring about elections,” said Christian Watson, an 18-year-old music education major from Novelty, Ohio. The Obama campaign is hoping to debunk that myth on Election Day, but it is fighting significant hurdles.
