David Petraeus was surprised to learn of girlfriend’s e-mails

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — CIA Director David Petraeus was shocked to learn last summer that his mistress was suspected of sending threatening emails warning another woman to stay away from him, former staff members and friends told The Associated Press Monday.

He is shocked, SHOCKED, about as much as Captain Renault was in Casablanca.  And this latest spin by his supporters that he was lonely and had trouble adjusting to private life -- please.  This is the first effort in his steps to lay the blame on Broadwell.  Make it sound like she was the predator.  SOP for successful males caught like this.  Make him look vulnerable and put the scarlet A on her.  He may be a great officer, but part of that greatness requires her to not hang her out to dry like this.

On the other hand, Ms. Broadwell has not denied sending threatening messages to a potential rival, delivered from what the FBI supposedly documented as Petreus's own email account (or one of at least ambiguous joint ownership with Broadwell?).  I'm don't think those messages mark her as a pure innocent, either.  Perhaps we can all agree that there appears to be enough blame to go around.  It so far seems to be a garden grade case of private parts, rather than general knowledge, doing the thinking, though.

A drama queen, obviously. Jeesh. Calm down. It's really none of your business anyway.

"The official said national security must be involved to notify Capitol Hill, and that was not the case in the Petraeus matter" But national security WAS involved. So MORE lying by the Obama Administration and Eric Holder about when it knew about the affair. And Paula Broadwell in October in Denver appears to be telling military secrets about Benghazi at a press covference.

This is very unfortunate, not just for Gen. Petraeus, nor the Gen. Allen, who's also being dragged into this affair. This is very unfortunate for the country. Two of our most talented military leaders are likely to lost to our nation because we want to enforce some kind puritanism on anyone in a leadership position.

Petraeus' affair is between him, his wife, and Ms. Broadwell. As long as he's doing his job, it's not the business of the rest of us. We are unbelievable sexual voyeurs. People want every detail; they want pictures; they want videos from the bedroom.

There was no need for Petraeus to resign. Obama shouldn't have accepted it, but he had no choice because it would have become a political issue. Imagine! A private tryst between two people becomes a public political sensation. We have serious sexual hangups in this country. That's the real scandal.
