Kerry may be choice for secretary of defense

Security shuffle follows Petraeus’s departure

WASHINGTON — President Obama is considering asking Senator John F. Kerry, Democrat of Massachusetts, to serve as his next defense secretary, part of an extensive rearrangement of his national security team that will include a permanent replacement for former CIA director David Petraeus.

Although Kerry is thought to covet the job of secretary of state, senior administration officials familiar with transition planning said that nomination will almost certainly go to Susan Rice, the US ambassador to the United Nations.

The US Senate will be hard for Democrats to hold in 2014.  Democrats will defend 20 seats, almost all in difficult territory, while Republicans will defend 13.  And the map is very tough. I'm suprised the Obama Administration feels they can risk the seat.

Got any backing for that?

You do know that Swift Boat stuff was a political smear?

you do know he slandered troops when he got back? You do know he called people in the military stoopid? You do know he never released his medical records? You do know he has done ZILCH for MA?

Well Rice is definitely a step up from John "We shouldn't be in the UN" Bolton...

OMG - say no more. Four more years of underperforming folks - u voted for them, not me.

and stupid people will vote for him again because his name is Kennedy and he is clueless. We get what we deserve....clueless president and clueless senator and the only good thing John Kerry was in is marrying rich women so a clueless defense head.

I can only think of one Democrat in Masachusetts who is not either stupid or corrupt: Deval Patrick.  No more Coakleys, please.

What an absolute joke!  How can these people say Kerry is qualified for this position with a staight face?

The Secretary of Defense is an executive position leading one of the largest organizations in the world. What executive experience has Kerry ever had?  None other than serving as a Lt. 40 years ago, the same experience proably 100,000 other people have! ven Dunder Mifflin wouldn't hire Kerry to manage the Scraton branch, not enough management experience!

Kerry is as clearly and fully not qualified for this position, as Obama was not qualified to run for President...and well, we have an economy that screams out how that hail-mary-pass has not worked out.  Perhaps Obama was inevitable as the affirmative action president, but what would be the excuse for Kerry?
