AARP digs in heels on cuts in benefits to Social Security

WASHINGTON — AARP, the lobbying powerhouse for older Americans, made a dramatic concession last year. Amid a national debate over whether to overhaul Social Security, the group said for the first time it was open to cuts in benefits.

The backlash from AARP members and liberal groups that oppose changes in the program was enormous — and this time around, as Washington debates how to tame the ballooning federal debt, AARP is opposed to any benefit reductions for the nation’s retirees.

The AARP leadership is just trying to SAVE FACE here. It pushed for the adoption of ObamaCare, over the objections of many of its (former) members. AARP LIED when it insisted that ObamaCare would not wind up cutting Medicare and MedicareAdvangtage benefits for seniors. AARP claims to represent Seniors, but it was perfectly willing to go along with a government program that DIVERTS money away from Seniors in order to set up hightly inefficient BUREAUCRATIC Medicaid "Exchanges". The AARP IS NOT a credible organization.

Before we allow Washington politicians to alter social security and Medicare, they should agree that

any reductions or changes have to be accompanied by the same changes to their extravagant

retirement and medical plans. They should not be allowed to decide our future at the exclusion

of their own. Of even greater importance is why are they not part of our social security and health

system? This is national insult and travesty.
