WASHINGTON — A moderate Republican senator, vital to any White House hopes of getting Ambassador Susan Rice confirmed as secretary of state, said Wednesday that she couldn’t back any nomination until more questions are answered about the deadly Sept. 11 attack in Libya and Rice’s State Department role during the 1998 US Embassy bombing in Kenya.
In a fresh suggestion of eroding GOP support for Rice, Senator Susan Collins of Maine emerged from a 90-minute, closed-door meeting with the US ambassador to the United Nations voicing new criticism of her initial account about Libya. Collins also questioned what Rice, the assistant secretary of state for African Affairs in the Clinton administration, knew about requests for enhanced embassy security before the Nairobi truck bombing.

Senator Collins.....have you had the opportunity to see how you present on the television when discussing Ms Rice? Without as much conviction as a bank robber walking away from a safe full of 100 bills. There is no passion..rather more of the same line that your other three stooges party members echoed in their sentiment about Ms Rice. I guess now that Olympia Snow is gone...you are the senior member from Maine and will be in the spot light a little more. If this very weak spectacle you presented to the public about Ms Rice is a precursor to more of how you legislate then the shine on the reputation on the great state of Maine will be tarnished. I expect the bs that little lindsay graham and mcinsane bring to the table....what the 1 term garbage that ayotte brings. But you...?
Many years ago in a management meeting we heard a Social Worker claim that people who move their hands when talking are exposing signs of mental illness & frustration.
Perception, is in the eyes of the beholder ' brownmustgo.' It sounds like you are using your hands rather than your brain in writing this blog about Senator Collins.
Do you really think senator centerfold would win another election? Get real. He has to realize he will be running against a Kennedy and will lose by 75%.
A few weeks ago there was a Globe Boggers who claimed that a 'ham sandwhich' could win an election in Massachusetts if someone put a "Democrat" sign in front of it.
I dare say that more & more Americans have adopted that focus.
Susan Collins is only as moderate as Mitch McConnell wants her to be. If she has a mind of her own she's never exposed it. I look forward to the day when she is replaced.
OMG_ Rice simply doesn't have the attributes or knowledge to function as the U.S. Secretary of State.
The idea that Obama thinks otherwise, reminds me of what goes on in the convoluitions of Deval Patrick's head: This false notion that an appointment or title naturally bestows the needed qualifications such as knowledge, demeanor, etc. which is necessary for one to do the job.
