Connecticut shootings

‘We can’t tolerate this anymore,’ Obama says

NEWTOWN, Conn. — President Barack Obama traveled to this bereaved town on Sunday evening, and chided the nation for having not done enough to protect its children, saying the country has to act to prevent such tragedies in the future.

Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, defended the sale of assault weapons and said the principal at Sandy Hook Elementary School, who authorities say died trying to overtake the shooter, should have been armed.

I see no need for assault weapons which are fzor combat. But if not only the principal were armed but each teacher, need I state the obvious conclusion?  This kid would have been gone before he could do more harm.

Unless she was a trained a Navy Seal, this is movie fantasy. It is unrealistic to ask a school teacher, in the face of all that chaos, to get her gun and fire off a killer head shot (the killer was wearing a bullet proof vest) and take him down. How about a realistic regulation of attack rifles -- which Reagan himself supported after his press secretary was crippled during the as sanitation attempt. Ask your congressperson to renew Brady Bill. Lawful folks can use their guns but there is no need for attack rifles with huge magazine caches.

the NRA are all about guns. Nothing not even a massacre of 6 years olds will ever change their mind. The USA is a gun society and the NRA has far too much political clout. President Obama knows this better than anyone and his speech was just to help ease the pain of the victims.

Many people just can't handle freedom. Why else would we have all of the laws we have now? So when freedom to own assault weapons intersects with people who can't handle freedom - those who are temporarily or permanently mentally disabled, you have tragedy. It's really as simple as that.
