Obama promises gun control proposal by Jan.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Declaring the time for action overdue, President Barack Obama promised on Wednesday to send Congress broad proposals in January for tightening gun laws and curbing violence after last week’s schoolhouse massacre in Connecticut.

Hate to say it in the context of this difficult subject, but Barry the O got a good sharp wack upside the head from ABC correspondent Jake Tapper. In effect, Tapper raised Barry's ire visibly when he said there have been several mass gunfire killings during Obama's first four-year ter.   Where ya been, Tapper asked the steaming president, who had decided himself that Tapper would ask the last question of the press conference.  And Barry's answer was about as insipid as he could make it - he has beeen too busy to deal with gun control, Barry preached, what with economic distress and automobile industry, etc.

This makes one wonder - is Obama all of a sudden an ardent antigun pol because a large number - 28, 20 of them little kids - died while the other killing numbers were in single digits?  Don't forget, Obama had been lecturing the White House press corps how he got elected and that tells him that most, if not all Americans agree with him on the tax rate question and its impact on a fiscal cliff. Campaiging is always on this guy's mind - one can only hope that this writer is wrong about wondering if the large number of Newtown fatalities is his antigun motivator after doing nothing about the assault weapon ban for his first four years.

Why not praise him for doing sometring now?  He may have had good reason not to do anything in his first four years. But there is nothing more satisfying, is there, than to criticize the man.

I wish one of the Republican leaders had taken a stand and proposed beefing up gun laws. But, as Mitch McConnell pledged before President Obama took his oath, that the goal for Republicans is to stop the Prez. So, watch the economy fall further into a hole while your Congress argues over a simple budget. Will I ever see a better job from my Republican friends? No, they are the Obstructionists and they ignored my vote! Cutting Medicare and Social Security? These lawmakers can fly home every weekend on our dime! Geez...

A little info on the assault weapons ban. It only affects cosmetic items on a .223 caliber rifle, like the one used in CT. It doesn't allow an expandable stock, grenade launcher, bayonet lug. None of this changes the performance of the rifle. It still shoots a .223 caliber bullet at more than 3000 ft per second.  The 30 round mag? A decent shooter can change mags in less than a second. It's all fluff coming from the White House, as usual. Mass currently has the assault weapons ban in effect, the same one the Feds dumped. You can still go into any gun shop and by an AR15.

I didn't know this. Are you sure?

And notice how readily Obama is following through on his "VOW" to get to the bottom of what happened in Benghazi, Libya. NOTHING to see here, folks, just move along.

It seems like a sensible thing to do, to background check every purchaser of guns, but the gun promoters would find a reason for blocking the passage of the bill enforcing that reasonable demand. I can’t believe it. And why should weapons of war be in the hands of gun-owners? How can anyone be in favor of assault weapons in the hands of civilians?  Also, you don’t need thirty rounds of bullets to kill a deer,

The other important issue is all violence on TV and movie shows.  Children, young adults and everbody for that matter should be taught to regard murder as unthinkable and horrible.

Parents should not allow children to watch a movie with murder and mayhem in it. They should not permit their children to buy those games that make murder fun to commit. As for the movies, though according to the constitution we can’t censor the movie companies, we can at least boycott them. That’s the only weapon we have. Maybe some groups could picket theaters that play violent movies.

These weapons were named "Assault weapons" by the anti gun lobby. Go to youtube and search for AR15 shooting competition. Guns are not just for hunting. Many use this gun for shooting sports.

Globe says "The president bristled at suggestions that he had been silent on gun issues during his four years in office"..And why do we need to know whenever the president's is "Bristled" by a question?. Whenever this president "Bristles" at a question, it's FAKE ANGER. And somehow the president gets even more "Bristled" if a reporter (probably a FOX reporter since no one else dares to ask) asks about the "Fast and Furious" government sponsored gunrunning operation to Mexico. Apparently Obama's "Gun Control" laws don't apply to his Administration.
