Traffic pileups hit Calif. and N.Y.

YREKA, Calif. — Northbound lanes of Interstate 5 in far Northern California were closed for about 12 hours after traffic collisions involving about 60 vehicles, police said.

The California Highway ­Patrol said the road was closed Tuesday evening after a report of a crash north of Yreka, near the Oregon border. Other crashes were occurring as the first officer responded. The highway patrol said eight people were taken to hospitals. Six were treated and released. Two others were admitted.
