Is the NRA willing to pay for this? Otherwise it's an unfunded mandate.
An armed camp is not anyone's view of a democratic nation. There is also more evidence that more mayhem will follow such implementation. The NRA is desperate and pushed by this tragedy puts out their dogma in boldface for all to see. No one is saying those who hunt or like to target shoot should be denied those privileges. However there should be precious few instances where private guns should trump community efforts to ensure security without limited our freedom. From Benjamin Franklin: "Sell not virtue to purchase wealth, nor Liberty to purchase power."
Yes, let's turn our schools into prisons, censor video games and create a national database of anyone who's ever gone to a psychiatrist. For freedom!
Seriously. The NRA's answer is to basically toss out the first, fourth and fifth amendments to make sure the second reigns supreme. Now wonder they announced on a Friday-before-Christmas news dump.
Apropos of the NRA proposal, what about other places with large concentrations of people (e.g., hotels, houses of worship, department stores)? Are we looking at a situation where every public venue will eventually be expected to become an armed camp?
Yes, this is what we can expect from what it basically an industry lobbying group which cares nothing about the human tragedy that it's political arm twisting in the name of ever more lethal and expensive weapons has created over and over again. A military grade weapons ban is obviously necessary. We cannot have civilians armed with military type weapons, bullets and magazines. To attempt to make the argument that one needs assault weapons and the ammo and extended magazines to hold as many bullets as possible cannot continue. I heard a man on CNN try to make the argument that he needs an assault rifle because "what if two criminals are attacking me and I have a weapon that needs to be re-loaded after a shot?". Well, let me think....how about a double barreled shot gun? What criminal (with an shred of self preservation) is going to continue on in the face of double barreled shotgun? My point is that any of the arguments being made to protect the "right" to own a military style assault rifle is nonsense.
Oh..and there is the expense part of the NRA's "solution"...is this right wing republican leaning group going to fund the installment of armed guards in every school in the country??? And who's tax money is going to pay for that? Interesting bit of hypocrisy that....rubbish.
The NRA has completely lost its mind.

What a gutless Ahole. imagine if one of his kids had been in that classroom. (of course the kid probably would have been armed with a bazooka)
I've been a Life Member of this organization for nearly than 20 years. I'm dissapointed in many of their positions and certainly in his comment. It's the wrong message at the wrong time and it's utterly unfeasible let alone the fact that I wouldn't want armed guards in either one of my kids schools.
Maybe it's time to re-think your membership (not trying to be a smartass here)? Or write and tell them how you feel.
A perfect plan to sell more guns. Whats next armed guards at supermarkets? why don't we just have armed guards at every public place? The NRA leaddrship must have stayed up all night to come up with this one.

The NRA didn't have to think too long about this one- it's their dream come true. More guns- more and more and more. They want every citizen armed to the hilt. They're trying to profit out of tragedy, absolutley.

This "man" and organization are so fearful that guns will be taken away in totality, that they will not address any discussion on reasable gun control. I believe that this statement today will further alienate the already fleeing members of the NRA. The question is who is doing more to destroy themselves, the republican pary or the NRA.
More guns and armed volunteers as a way to realize the civil society and rule of law. A good companion vision would be Jesus , Mary and Joseph "Away in a Manger"; doing concealed carry. 2d Amendment rights in Paradise. Armored piercing Jesus! Where does it end?
What a ^&^%$ !!
