Gunman set ‘trap’ in which 2 firefighters were killed, officials say

WEBSTER, N.Y. (AP) — An ex-con gunned down two firefighters after luring them to his neighborhood by setting a car and a house ablaze early Monday, then took shots at police and committed suicide while several homes burned.

Authorities used an armored vehicle to help residents flee dozens of homes on the shore of Lake Ontario a day before Christmas. Police restricted access to the neighborhood, and officials said it was unclear whether there were other bodies in the seven houses left to burn.

I want to hear the NRA's response to this.

That's easy. The NRA would say that we should now arm firefighters (in addition to teachers). The NRA thinks the solution to too many guns is more guns.

We have seen the media's response, Lohud (a Gannett company) just published online a map that shows the location of every registered handgun owner in three counties of New York.

Looks like the libs will stop at NOTHING to further their cause, including giving criminals a roadmap to steal guns, to further their cause.

I think I will stick with the NRA and the 2A as it stands.

Now that Lohud (a Gannett company) has published a map of registered gun owners that includes their names and addresses online for several New York counties, I don't believe you can expect much cooperation from any gun owners, nevermind the NRA on this issue.

As far as I am concerned, the 2A stands, gun registration is out.  You folks that don't like seeing school children shot are going to need to pony up for security.  The shooting turned my stomach, but what the irresponsibility of the press has reached new heights.

Not only has a Gannett company put those gun owners at risk, but now criminals seeking guns know where to burglarize.  Moreover, they also know which homes on a particular street do NOT have armed home owners, thus putting those people in jeopardy.

Does that anti gun crowd really expect gun owners to trust them after this?

Gun registration, like every other form of registration, is a matter of public record. If gun thieves were determined to use such information to target gun owners they would have already done so. There are many easier ways to get guns. I agree, it is an irresponsible behaviour to publish in that context, just as using public records to harass anyone for any reason is reprehensible, such as PETA  using public records to harass researches on rumors they may have used animals. I would say I am more concerned that a convicted killer had firearms, as was the case here.

I agree that publishing gun ownership information is inflammatory and not helpful in what has to be a serious upcoming discussion concerning the limits of the second amendment to the Constitution.

However, if you are concerned about your own security as a consequence of the publication of such lists, I suggest you "pony up" as well.

As someone who doesn't own a gun, your demand that I pay for the collateral damage from your hobby seems ridiculous to me.
