Man who killed 2 firemen left note on killing plan

WEBSTER, N.Y. — The ex-con who lured two firefighters to their deaths in a blaze of gunfire left a rambling typewritten note saying he wanted to burn down the neighborhood and ‘‘do what I like doing best, killing people,’’ police said Tuesday as they recovered burned human remains believed to be the gunman’s missing sister.

Police Chief Gerald Pickering said 62-year-old William Spengler, who served 17 years in prison for the 1980 hammer slaying of his grandmother, armed himself with a revolver, a shotgun and a military-style rifle before he set his house afire to lure first responders into a death trap before dawn on Christmas Eve.

Life member of the NRA?

Did his first murder with a HAMMER, so probably not.  Of course, if he had been EXECUTED for that murder, rather than being turned loose on society, we wouldn't be reading about him today, would we?

And then there are all those great laws in place that state felons cannot have guns.  Those work real good, huh?  About as good as the federal gun free school zone act which saved the lives of those 20 children in Newtown.

But you, in all your wisdon, would like to point your finger at the NRA.  Not the people who gutted NY's death penalty law, or the parole board that decided this monster should be turned loose on Webster.  Of course not, it HAS to be the NRA's fault.

Go draft a few more laws, point a few more fingers at those who have nothing to do with these horrendous crimes.  It won't solve the problem, but it will make you feel better that someone else is at fault, other than YOU.

Some people are in serious denial, or possibly evil themselves. History is just that! He's nasty. He's resentful. He thinks everyone is wrong who doesn't think like him. He's blindly closed-minded. He's intolerant. He's scary!!! I wouldn't want him living near me.

@History: he was convicted of manslaughter because he did a plea bargain.  Please stick to the facts.  We'll find out, I hope, how he got access to those guns.  When we know that, we'll know the kind of laws we need to help prevent the next similar tragedy.  Certainly, the huge number of weapons like the Bushmaster that are produced and circulating in this country is one reason they are so easy to get access to.  We need federal registration, federal licensing, and proof by owners and probably by inspection that they can keep these weapons out of the hands of anyone but themselves.  If a gun is not under the owner's control, we should insist that the owner takes legal responsibility for anything the weapon is used for.  Much like your car registration.
