WASHINGTON — President Obama said Sunday that the day of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., was the worst of his presidency and that he wanted new legislation limiting access to some types of firearms passed within the first year of his second term.
‘‘I think anybody who was up in Newtown, who talked to the parents, who talked to the families, understands that something fundamental in America has to change,’’ Obama said on NBC’s Meet the Press.’’ “And all of us have to do some soul searching, including me as president, that we allow a situation in which 20 precious small children are getting gunned down in a classroom.’’

President Obama has already made enough "fundamental" changes. He has created a style of presidency that is more like monarchy by his use of Executive Order, which has far exceeded any president before him.
We can only hope that when he discovers this "fundamental change" does not come about, he will not do what every dictator in history before him has done, that is, just order it by decree alone. It would be an extremely divisive act. Tinkering with the Constitution, even with proper public and congressional debate is dangerous ground. Doing it by Executive Order would be disastrous.
Use of the executive order took place because he is confronted by a house which has pledged, in writing, never to negotiate.
PValen: Use? How about USAGE? EO's have been misused by many presidents, however, it is NEVER an excuse for bypassing our legislative process. We are not in a state of emergency or actually "at war" in regards to things like "cap and trade" or his notorious "Dream Act" which the American people wanted no part of. So he just sidestepped legislation. No real reason for it other than he just wanted his way, like a bully.
