Obama to nominate Hagel as defense chief

Republicans voice concerns on defense pick

NEW YORK — President Obama has selected Chuck Hagel, a former senator from Nebraska, to be his next defense secretary, turning to a prominent Republican to lead the Pentagon as it faces the challenge of winding down the war in Afghanistan and possible reductions in military spending.

But the nomination, which a White House official said would be announced Monday, has already encountered stiff opposition from Republicans and Democrats because of Hagel’s views on Israel and Iran and his comments about an ambassador who was gay.

Comments

Well his experience in Vietnam already puts him past Rumsfeld and Cheney with their deferments, I'd rather a politician who has served be running the Pentagon rather than some political shill.

Jews, including those who foolishly voted for the anti-Israel Obama, should be outraged at this fellow anti-Israel pick for Secretary of Defense.

Isreal is not the US.. We din't pick their secretary of defense they will have to live with ours.. Unless you're suggesting that Isrealshould get a vote on this.
