WASHINGTON — While President Obama pledged to crack down on access to what he called ‘‘weapons of war’’ in the aftermath of last month’s schoolhouse massacre, the White House has calculated that a ban on military-style assault weapons will be exceedingly difficult to pass through Congress and is focusing on other measures it deems more politically achievable.
As a task force led by Vice President Joe Biden readies recommendations on reducing gun violence for delivery to the president next week, White House officials said a new ban will be an element of whatever final package is proposed. But given the entrenched opposition from gun rights groups and their advocates on Capitol Hill, the White House is trying to avoid making its passage the sole definition of success and is emphasizing other new gun rules that could conceivably win bipartisan support and reduce gun deaths.

The proposed gun laws will affect LAW abiding citizens only and none others. Gun laws are not the reason for them. Proposed gun laws are to disarm you but arm the government. Will Obama disarm the Secret service and all politicians and all agencies???If we have no guns he wont need armed protection or access to armed actions against Americans......unless this is a complete FARCE for a repeat of the 1930's Nazi Hitlers example. Are you oblivious to the dictator plans of this current administration and its leader Obama who you elected??????
Good luck standing off the Marine Corps. You need to sit down and think.

How can they disarm you when no law takes guns away and only restricts future purchases or makes them more trackable and keep guns out of the hands of those who try to get them and shouldn't? Typical over reaction.
I'd rather see piecemeal regulation come into place, we don't need limits on guns yet, although high capacity magazines are really not a need for the person looking to protect from a home break-in (I doubt ANYONE is going to shoot off multiple rounds in their own house) or needed for hunting, when you get one or two shots.
You doubted than ANYONE would shoot off multiple rounds in their own house. Care to explain the five rounds the young mother put into the home invader threatening her and the kids? By the way, after hitting him five times in critical areas, he STILL got up and ran away. Luckily for her, it was only him, she had a six shot revolver and was out of bullets. So blab away all you want about there not being a need for high capacity magazines in home defense, you are just plain wrong.
Oh, that event happened very recently, not years and years ago.
Folks, you had better start realizing that Hollywood is make believe, people rarely go down with one shot.
With all the hardware out there, it's like closing the barn door after the cows roamed away. Most hi-cap clips aren't date stamped.
