WASHINGTON — President Obama plans to push Congress to move quickly in the coming months on an ambitious overhaul of the immigration system that would include a path to citizenship for most of the 11 million illegal immigrants in the country, senior administration officials and lawmakers said last week.
Obama and Senate Democrats will propose the changes in one comprehensive bill, the officials said, resisting efforts by some Republicans to break the overhaul into smaller pieces — separately addressing young illegal immigrants, migrant farmworkers, or highly skilled foreigners — that might be easier for reluctant members of their party to accept.

And what response will Obama have for the many people currently waiting in line to enter legally ? Will he tell them they should have snuck into our country years ago? Will he sneer at their naivity ? Or will he just be content with the votes of the newly legalized ?
Yes, at the very least the entire backlog of those waiting to enter the countrly legally should be processed first.

There is a practical problem that we all face, Republican or Democrat. What to do with more than 10-12 million people who are among us now. That's the hand we are dealt. Obama has spent more on border securtity than any other President. Good! That has to be part of the solution. Meanwhile it is better for all of us if the McCains and Grahams work with the Shumers and Menendezes to solve this without hateful, nativist speech. It will be better for Republicans if they isolate their Tea Partiers on this and better for the country as well.
Can we all pick some crimes to commit without penalty?
I work hard....always have. Never been on the dole. Fought for my country in 2 wars.
DId not do that to let a single penny of my go towards supporting ILLEGAL ALIENS.
But I'll happy donate extra to the "round em up, ship 'em back" fund...
Didn't the Obama team promise us immigration reform four years ago? Why did they wait until BHO was re-elected?
"In the November presidential election, Hispanics, the nation’s fastest-growing electorate, turned out in record numbers and cast 71 percent of their ballots for Obama. Many Hispanics said they were put off by Republicans’ harsh language against illegal immigrants."
"Harsh language" means not rewarding them for breaking laws? If 10 million burglars form a voting block will they be able to get away with their crimes too?
Well make them legal citizens, then they can legally collect benefits, I'm getting really tired of this. You better make sure they can't live off the tax payer.
Is the Immigration Rulemaker in Chief going to use presidential fiat to set new rules for U.S. immigration policy if he suspects tht Congress won't give him a path to citizenship? I mean, what the heck, Barry the O could just sit there in the White House family apartment and issue a fiat while watching MASH on t he TVLand channel. Wonder who will look out for Irish immigrans this time around without a Kennedy in the Senate or the U.S. Embassy in Dublin.
