House GOP agrees to lift borrowing limit

WASHINGTON — Backing down from their hard-line stance, House Republicans said Friday that they would agree to lift the federal government’s statutory borrowing limit for three months, with a requirement that both chambers of Congress pass a budget in that time to clear the way for negotiations on long-term deficit reduction.

The new proposal, which came out of closed-door party negotiations at a retreat in Williamsburg, Va., seemed to significantly reduce the threat of a default by the federal government in coming weeks.

I guess this constitutes tea bag compromise.  Extorsion and usurpation postponed for thrree months instead of immediate implimentation.

Did the democrats immediately impliment a budget as required by law???

No, No, No....

The senate democrats have no argument here. They have flouted the constitution for 4 years by not passing a budget. They could never play for the N.E. Patriots because they would fail Belichick's one demand, " DO YOUR JOB"!

Awesome move. Your move Obama and harry

Agreed, this was a good tactical move by the GOP. A good strategic encore would be for Republicans to unveil a budget which garnered strong public support. That would change the "game" in Washington.

I like that idea, no budget...no pay for congress including pres. & VP and staff......

In lifting the debt ceiling for 3 months.....no pork to be added....no more subsidies for Puerto Rican rum to the tune of $222 million dollars....like in the Sandy's bill to help in that disaster. Enough is enough...abuse on non-essencial bills must stop.  Where is that line by line veto Pres. Obama promised....they didn't even read the Obamacare bill and what a mess that is.

Also every pork bill should have the persons name that sponsored it be attached...We have over $16 trillion in debt and it increased in 4 years more then Pres. Bush's in 8 years.   As Pres. Obama said it is unpatriotic to increase the ceiling debt blah, blah....but now how his tone has changed..he wants to add trillions more to the enormous debt he has already  created.
