NEW ORLEANS — More than a decade ago, Ray Nagin was elected mayor of New Orleans on a vow to root out corruption in a city plagued by decades of it.
On Friday, the former mayor was indicted on charges that he lined his pockets with bribe money, payoffs, and gratuities while the chronically poor city struggled to recover from Hurricane Katrina.

Interesting....politician in a major city indicted for corruption. And Ray Nagin is, what? A Democrat? Republican? Socialist? It isn't relevant to describe his party affiliation? That's funny because one can't find a story on a Republican who gets a traffic violation without having his affiliation expressed in the first two paragraphs, no? This is probably an "oversight". Riiiiiggggghhhht!
