Assault weapons ban filed in Congress

WASHINGTON — During a lengthy and at times emotionally wrenching news conference, Senator Dianne Feinstein announced legislation Thursday that would ban the sale and manufacture of 157 types of semiautomatic weapons, as well as magazines holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition.

The bill, which Feinstein, a California Democrat, introduced in the Senate on Thursday afternoon, would exempt firearms used for hunting and would grandfather in certain guns and magazines. The goal of the bill, she said, would be ‘‘to dry up the supply of these weapons over time.’’

Yup, I like it too, since it is going, going, going.......nowhere.

More feel good legislations, has zippity doo dah chance of passing.

But hey, the last time she had any relevance was back in '94, 1994, not 1894.  But then that AWB actually didn't do anything either.  We can all count on Dianne to propose worthless legislation.

I understand after she melted down her personal carry piece as part of a "peace cross", she got herself a brand new Glock.  Could be just a rumor though, she might have opted for a S&W.

"focus on enforcement of existing laws."

A democrat actually said that would be a good idea?  No, can't be!  Wait, it is true.  Of course it is true, the gun debate is NOT a dem/rep issue it is sane vs insane issue.  My opinion of some democrats just went WAY up, sanity may be sweeping their party.

Too bad that enforcing existing laws has been made impossible by the gun lobby.  http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/wed-january-16-2013/there-goes-the-boom---atf?xrs=share_fb

Kate, that was an interesting clip. The problem I have is that I really dislike Jon Stewart, so it is hard to watch him and at times very easy to dismiss anything he has to say.  Similar to the way many people feel about LaPierre, I find Stewarts "cuteness" offputting, and separating fact from fiction a bit difficult.

That said, if what he says is accurate, it certanly needs to be fixed.  I know that gun dealers here in MA are, in fact, regularly inspected, log books checked, etc every years.  I am now wondering if that is the ATF or the FRB?

One of the problems we all see with legislation, is that someone always goes overboard.  They just have to go that one step over the line.  Tracking gun dealers as to which ones are selling into "illegal" markets, ie, "strawman" sales?  Good idea, but then someone just has to toss in "Fingerprint buyers, put them in national database, etc"  Wait a minute, if you want to control gun dealers, then keep the legislation restricted to gun dealers and don't try to sneak in legislation that makes a law abiding gun owner part of a federal database.
