CIA officer gets 30 months for leak

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The first CIA officer to face prison for disclosing classified information was sentenced Friday to 30 months by a federal judge.

The judge, Leonie M. Brinkema, said that in approving the sentence, she would respect the terms of a plea agreement between the former CIA agent, John C. Kiriakou, and prosecutors, but “I think 30 months is way too light.”

Those who glorify the CIA and its torture, they are celebrated.  Disappointing selective enforcement.

Great! So the people who break American and international law and torture prisoners walk free, while Kiriakou goes to jail for telling the truth. This is the measure of what empires inevitably become. It's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

There is always a price to truth and freedom.  I'm glad Mr. Kiriakou paid it.  Now what do we do as a nation about our behavior as torturers?
