High court may hear suits on employees’ birth control

NEW YORK — In a flood of lawsuits, Roman Catholics, evangelicals, and Mennonites are challenging a provision in the new health care law that requires employers to cover birth control in employee health plans — a high-stakes clash between religious freedom and health care access that appears headed to the Supreme Court.

In recent months, federal courts have seen dozens of lawsuits brought not only by religious institutions like Catholic dioceses but also by private employers, ranging from a pizza mogul to produce transporters, who say the government is forcing them to violate core tenets of their faith.

Did you  notice that little box 12 on your W-2?  Yes, that is the value of your health insurance, which means it is your compensation and is being reported to the IRS. It remains at this point in time, non-taxable.   It only includes the amount your employer paid on your behalf.  Which means your health insurance policy is your private property.  Does your employer dictate whether or not you can buy birth control pills with your paycheck?  NO.  So, it is highly hypocritical to claim that 1/2 or 2/3 or your health insurance is THEIR private property because in lieu of compensation they pay part of your health insurance premium.
