$50.5b hurricane relief package reaches Obama

Senate passes bill despite GOP debt concerns

WASHINGTON — Three months after Hurricane Sandy ravaged coastal areas in much of the Northeast, Congress on Monday sent a $50.5 billion emergency relief measure for storm victims to President Obama for his signature.

‘‘I commend Congress for giving families and businesses the help they deserve, and I will sign this bill into law as soon as it hits my desk,’’ Obama said in a statement late Monday.

This money should be spent on restoring infrastructure and public facilities.  If people and businesses did not have insurance to cover their damages, the government (i.e., the taxpayers) should not come to their rescue.  If insurance in that location is too expensive, then people should either not live there or be prepared to suffer losses in the event of a catastrophe.

lesvalseuses: If somebody's house gets washed away and they had no insurance, should the government pay to rebuild the house?

Where is the Senate going to find the money to pay for this? Oh, that’s right, it ain’t their job to worry about money, they only do good things for people.
