WASHINGTON — President Obama called on lawmakers Tuesday to quickly pass a package of limited spending cuts and tax changes that can head off the automatic, across-the-board reductions set to begin March 1.
Obama said Congress should delay the automatic cuts for a period of months to give lawmakers a chance to negotiate a full deficit reduction package that permanently resolves the threat of the so-called sequester.

opening up Medicare to 55+ citizens would go a long way to making Medicare solvent, and Social Security is solvent for the next couple decades at least. It's strange that it's even mentioned in this article. Cutting our bloated military and raising taxes on the rich, I'm not saying Eisenhower taxes, but higher tax rates than we have, would solve this made-up deficit problem quickly.

GEE, the Prez had no problem in letting the Bush tax cuts expire. Here is a Sequester that Obama championed himself. He hoped, and the Globe and the AP hoped too, that the House GOP would CAVE to avoid defense department cuts. And since Obama our Commander in Chief actually HATES the troops, what is he complaining about? He is also trying to put in the INCOMPETENT Chuck Hagel as Secretary Of Defense. Hagel also wants Defense dept cuts...If the cuts were only defense, Obama would be ECSTASTIC...And by the way, if the GOP CAVES, then the media will reward the GOP by bragging that the Republican Party is split...So why should the GOP do what the Left media wants?
