Bishops slam birth control compromise

American bishops said Thursday the Obama administration’s latest compromise on birth control coverage and religious employers doesn’t go far enough to answer church concerns.

The US Conference of Catholic Bishops said a bigger buffer is needed between religious charities and any third party arranging contraceptive coverage. Bishops also want a clearer statement that faith-affiliated hospitals and other nonprofits are religious ministries.

Comments

How can a religiously-affiliated hospital that hires staff of other faiths consider their hospital to be "a ministry?"  Does the Church hire rabbis to preach sermons?  A hospital may have been created from the charitable impulses that the religion endorses, but as soon as they hire someone of another faith, that institution ceases being a ministry and becomes, you know, more of a hospital.

Replies

If you took time to educate yourself on the meaning of the word ministry, you might understand that what defines a ministry is its mission, not the affiliation of those it hires. But then again, you might not.

These sanctimonious hypocrites have no moral standing.  If they wish to lobby they should give up their tax exempt status and get in line with the NRA to bully congress.

one attack after the other by Obama - due process, religious freedom, the Constitution

Wow! These Bishops are just as outraged at all those Bishops and Cardinals who overlooked the sexual abuse of children for decades...oh I'm sorry, nary a word even by many of these out of the loop Bishops as of today, 2/8/13. The vast majority of Catholic women practice birth control.  Just what is their problem with birth control?  They're single, cloistered ( in the being separate from the average of males their age ) men dictating the copulating habits of women, and men?  So very strange. These Bishops practice people control.  Let's hear their outrage at Cardinal Law pulling a Whitey Bulger in the Vatican.

As life long catholic let messy that the hierarchy has lost it's way and is now a group of corrupt, power hungry, sexist perverts more interested in their flock's crotch than their souls.
