Cardinal O’Malley reflects on trials for next pope

BRAINTREE — Cardinal Sean P. O’Malley, one of 11 American cardinals who will help choose the next pope, said Tuesday that the prelate chosen needs to be a sharp intellect, a capable manager, and a strong communicator who can engage the next generation of Catholics and appeal to those who have drifted from the church.

“It’s a huge responsibility and something that weighs heavily on the heart of every cardinal who is going to this conclave,” the archbishop of Boston said, speaking to reporters at the archdiocesan headquarters. “We see the challenges that the church faces today and just imagine how difficult this job is going to be. So we want to get the very best person.”

God bless you, Cardinal Sean! I'm a practicing Catholic who needs more practice. I wish priests could marry and women could be priests. I don't think either will happen soon. I wish the Church could accept gay lifestyle, but it does seem to be forbidden in the Bible.

too much to ask, much less expect, that the men in charge can lose the misogyny thing ?  cant give up the witch hunt for gay priests since the retiring Pope and his predecessor-patron made that the lynchpin of their response to pedophilia scandals.

and when do we really find out why Benedict, former member of the Hitler Youth, actually "retired" ??  certainly not from any of the reporting which is flawed by unrelenting hagiography.

The Holy Roman Church of Misogynist Pederasty has a window of opportunity. Will the church embrace it? Not likely. These clowns need to lose the wealth and hubris and each read and reread "The Shoes of the Fisherman."

Same old same old. And isn't this self appointed infallibility thing getting old. O'Malley is merely Law dressed up like Harry Potter..... Signed life long, 60 yr old practicing catholic.
