Nearly 4,200 cruise passengers begin returning home

MOBILE, Ala. — Passengers who finally escaped the disabled Carnival cruise ship Triumph were on the move early Friday, some checked into the comfort of hotels, others on buses or headed to charter flights home after five numbing days at sea on a ship paralyzed by an engine-room fire.

The vacation ship carrying some 4,200 people docked late Thursday in Mobile to raucous cheers from passengers weary of overflowing toilets, food shortages and foul odors.

Floating swill buckets.

I would never sail with Carnival again. I left an expensive set of headphones in my room and the cabin attendant stole it. Instead of taking my side Carnival defended the the thief. Now they have one less customer.  There cruise lines have enough money to have been able to send a ship out to meet the the disabled ship and off loaded all the passengers immediately. They decided to instead put everyone through hell. Carnial Cruise lines should just go away now.

Dewitt, I was watching CNN last night, and a couple of former cruise employees said it is not safe to bring another cruise ship alongside the disabled one.  They are simply too big...and with one of them being unrestrained, there is too much of a risk that they might smash together (and kill the people being transferred from one ship to the next).  I hear you, though, about your theft and their crappy reputation in general.  I have no interest in taking a cruise...but if I did, I wouldn't take it with Carnival!
