White House says immigration plan is a backup

GOP pans draft that was revealed over weekend

WASHINGTON — A plan by President Obama for an overhaul of the immigration system would put illegal immigrants on a path to citizenship that could begin after about eight years and would require them to go to the back of the line behind legal applicants, according to a draft of the legislation that the White House has circulated within the administration.

On Wednesday, the White House sent copies of the draft to officials in government agencies that deal with immigration and border security, including the departments of State, Commerce, Homeland Security, Justice, and Health and Human Services, said an administration official who agreed to discuss the details only on the condition of anonymity.

We are becoming the United States of Amexico! Our borders should be strengthened and require E-Verify. We need to finally end the Bush oil war(s) in the Middle East, bring the troops home and post those in service on our borders. Wages in the US are being lowered due to illegals being illegally hired by those American companies who want to pay for cheap labor. We need to FIX IMMIGRATION AND SAVE AMERICA!

You are right on IMMIGRATION.  Unsure where the "bush oil wars" came from.

If we are going to let them stay on for 8 years as illegals, let's make sure they are eligible for ZERO benefits...let someone sponsor them and let's talk fines...because Obama is gonna do what Obama wants to do. He is trying to circumvent the Congress, so he couldn't care less about what the people think. Besides, he has two relatives to make legal...at least one of which needs more government benefits...

Rubio, a Cuban American, is about as representative of the Latino community as Tagg Romney.

Globe headline "White House says immigration plan is a backup". First of all, why does it say "White House"? This is Barack Obama's own plan for immigration reform. He is responsible, put his name on it.   And, no this is NOT a "backup", which the Globe accepts without any questions. This is a deliberate attempt by Barack Obama to SABOTAGE what would be bipartisan immigration reform. Obama does NOT want to sign his name to any immigration bill. Because then he would have to accept responsibility for it, and he wouldn't be able to keep up the agitation about the issue.

Will they need to prove they are employable so they do not go dirently onto welfare?
