White House highlights travel disruptions

Says flight delays will cascade if cuts take effect

WASHINGTON — The White House on Friday warned of potentially severe disruptions in air travel if across-the-board spending cuts take effect in less than a week, as President Obama intensified pressure on congressional Republicans to entertain spending reductions and tax increases to avoid furloughing federal workers and limiting services.

The focus on what Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said was the high likelihood of cascading flight delays and closed towers at smaller airports showed that the Obama administration believed that the threat of widespread travel problems could sway the public and encourage voters to force Republicans to the bargaining table.

What utter nonsense and rubbish.

With the HUGE tax cuts in place, the federal budget will actually be $15B  MORE than it was last year.

In other words,  WHAT CUTS?

The $85B in cuts equals 9 days worth of running the Federal government.

Obama just doesn't want to tighten the belt up a notch.

With all due respect, this is a Democracy. Congress is jamming this one up. How about a $30 million cut to John Boehner's annual operating budget? No more weekly travel home? President Obama can't pass a budget on his own.

A comment that expresses a total lack of knowledge regarding the debt.  Extremely disappointing.  Pure political rubbish.

pathetic posturing by the president

Idiot Repubs are holding their breath till they turn blue. Would rather wreck the country than work with the president.

I think we'd all like to work with him on a solution that stops us from borrowing $0.40 of every dollar we spend.  Unfortunately for the President, there just aren't enough rich people to squeeze to make the math work without spending cuts.

Looks like Barry the O better start admitting that his 'commander-in-chiefiness" ain't very commanding.  How many other Presidents in the middle of national crises have attempted to use political campaigning to run the country.  FDR?  Maybe, but he was good at it, and even he suffered his defeats, as with the Supreme Court.  We still haven't reached the point of Obamacare being measurable for whatever havoc it might wreak on the economy and taxpayers.

Seems to me that Devill the Magnificent Patrick better focus on his Chicago hack Bud, Barry, to see how over-reaching produces mainly just trouble.

And I suppose Boehner and McConnel aren't campaigning?  They have been campaigning for four plus years now - on the day Obama took office.  What frauds to pay for two wars on the American credit card when it suited them politically but now they'd just as soon see the US become a bananna republic because it suits them politically.  How can you hate America that much?

By the way, check out the Tea Party destroying and actually helping to kill folks in Maine.  They took Palin's "Death Panel" and implemented it in good old maine!

The article I mention above is on the front page - "Tea Party's LePage wants to kill old people and the poor" should have been the headline.

Does president Zero mean he wont be able to go on his million dollar golf outings and moochelle wont be able to go her million dollar ski outings. Ok.

Boat dope you are consistent.

This was such a stupid thing to focus on. Airline waits?   Guess who's on the airplanes?  The folks who don't want to pay more taxes.  The desire to not pay more taxes is greater than the occassional wait at the airport.  The normally smart Obama machine miscalculted this one.

Well the usual blather regarding the budget continues on the comment board.  The budget is 15 billion more this year than last.  Really!  What exactly has that got to do with the long term debt issue.  Oh, nothing.  But heck it sounds good I'll throw it in there.  So let's see the positions are as I last read them Obama wants to close the tax loop holes regarding, private jets, yachts and other high end tax deductions.  He at last offer was talking further cuts in Medicare, open to changes in SS and some defense cuts.  The Republicans are offering cuts in Medicaid, Food Stamps and Childrens Healthcare.  Seriously?

Why not do like LePage end Medicaid.  Heck why don't the R's just go for it.  End food stamps. Medicaid. Childrens healthcare.  That way could throw in some more tax deductions for say high end suits.  Why don't we just make the Republican Party look like total morons.  As I've pointed out before I used to be a Republican.  But how in the world does one make an arguement to the American people that, "Hey tax credits for private jets, yachts, and other high end deductions are more important that say "Childrens Healthcare."

By the way 85 billion in cuts this year does nothing to change the long term deficit.  It looks nice but it amounts to nothing except lower employment and lower GDP.  Some folks just can't seem to get through their thick heads that the short term debt has little to do with the long term debt.

Just wondering...who recently had a yacht built in australia ( called outsourcing if a Repub did it) and then tried to hide it in Rhode Island so as not to pay tax on it?

Was it Mitt?  Surely Boehner?  No...that's not right.  Who was it?

Oh my, it was the Democratic Stalwart - John Kerry.   But, you see, even though he is a democrat, we'll just pretend that GOP's are the one's who do it.

Did anyone notice Al Gore rushing to sell is company to a oil company..(again, evil if a GOP'er takes petro dollars) to try can duck the oppresive taxes Obama is trying to push thru in the new year?

Al is most certainly a democratic poster child...but again, we should just pretend that GOP'ers are the one that ofshore and won't pay taxes "for the children"...

Wow you do like to make comments that have nothing to do with anything.  This relates to the policy issue, how?  Oh I know you don't like Dems. okay.  thanks for the input.
