Obama urges Congress to ‘compromise’ on cuts

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama on Monday said looming automatic spending cuts are already affecting the economy, while a top administration official warned that the nation’s borders would be less secure if billions of dollars are yanked from the budget Friday.

compromise and accept his package is what he means

Exactly! When is the American public wake up and realize that this president has done nothing but hurt the economy and enslave the minority communities with his expansion of entitlement programs.

The president does not understand compromise anymore than he understands bipartisan.  Last year he and the speaker reached a compromise and just before it was announced the presidenreneged and demanded more taxes.  The deal died and the president wrote the death certificate with uncooperative Republicans as the cause.   And the press went with it.

Sure the government will shutdown - it we cut 85B from a 3.8T budget - that’s 2.24%

What this government needs is leadership. It is lacking in the President, the Senate and the House. That is why nothing is getting done.

Obama lecturing US governors on "compromise" would be laughable if it were not so pathetic.  Governors need to work at compromise on a regular basis, something this President seems incapable of or unwilling to do.

Compromise = My way or I'll sic the lapdog press on you. What a pathetic excuse for a president. Remember your boy Jack Lew authored this crippling budget cutting bill.

Should the Senate confirm as treasury secretary a man who was paid $1.1 million by Citigroup after it was bailed out and whose employment contract gave him favorable stock option treatment if he left his job for a high federal government post but not for another governmental or nonprofit job? That’s the question raised by the nomination of Jack Lew, according to Bloomberg News’s Jonathan Weil, who got hold of the first three pages of Lew’s Citigroup employment agreement and interviewed a Citigroup spokesman about it. One inference you could draw is that Robert Rubin, the Clinton administration treasury secretary who has been exceedingly well paid at Citigroup even as it headed to bailout territory, wants to keep a Citigroup alumnus running Treasury.

LOOKING INTO JACK LEW’S TENURE AT NEW YORK UNIVERSITY, “where he pulled down an enormous salary, including sweetheart loans, while the students were footing enormous tuition bills. Worse, under his nose NYU negotiated a deal with Citicorp (miraculously, Lew’s next employer!) to provide loans to students, a deal that then-state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo found to be illegal.”

I don't know what reality all you idiots live in, but show me where the republicans have compromised. Anyone? John Boner can't even manage his own party. Any lack of progress in this is all on them. He can't even control his own party and you're blaming OBAMA?

Reality...the last tax deal.

Whch he did most of the compromising on. I didn't notice Boner embracing compromise.

As soon as someone writes in a comment, Obama or Republicans I know they have nothing objective to say in the matter.  The fact is the executive and the legislative branch own this poor piece of legislation. The fact of the matter is neither seems willing to move very much.  But I'll let the zealots have their delusions as they usually do.

If you think "both sides are to blame" makes you sound fair and wise, you are not paying attention.

‘‘At some point we've got to do some governing,’’ Obama said. ‘‘And certainly what we can’t do is keep careening from manufactured crisis to manufactured crisis.’

He positively had to be talking to himself in the mirror when he said this.  Some kind of pep talk, I guess?

Seriously, Obammer is the one who manufactured this crisis.  No one seems to remember that he was for budget cuts before he was against them.

Steve 82593 said it best - the Republicans vote for NOTHING with Obama's name on it and they have never compromised.  They sat in a room on election day five years ago and said lets sign on to NOTHING put forward by this president.  What planet have you right wingers been living on Glen Beckville or Rushland?
