WASHINGTON — Michelle Obama challenged governors Monday to make it easier for military personnel to transfer their skills to civilian jobs as they return from Afghanistan and other posts.
‘‘While this time of war may be ending, the truth is our responsibility to our troops and their families will really just be ramping up,’’ she told governors during an event at the White House.

Curious as to why the military couldn't do this themselves rather than have each state create thier own rules and system for implementing this? Also, don't veterans get preferential treatment for any town, state or national goverment job? Seems like there are procedures in place already but so surprise they're not working.
Military vets do need some assistance readjusting to civilian life, including finding jobs. But why does Michelle Obama's involving herself in peddling this idea to state and local governments seem like an attempt by a leader of a third-rate banana republic trying to form a loyal of the politically loyal? Lots of reports about post-military vets portray cases of Veterans Administration facilities that delay aid to many vets, financial difficulties for vets and their families, and insufficient government programs for vets. Yet here is Michele Obama using her FLOTUS microphone to peddle some sort of allegedly new version of civil service preference for 21st Century vets. Seems a bit like another effort to float the FLOTUS for some undecipherable purpose, like her Academy Awards appearance.

Many of these Vets would prefer to remain in the military. They volunteered to be in the Service, and many hope for a career in the Services. But their Commander in Chief HATES the American military and is ending their jobs and careers...These Vets do not need Michelle Obama's insincere job counseling and outplacement.
