WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House conceded Wednesday that efforts to avoid automatic budget cuts are unlikely to succeed before they kick in and is initiating new talks with congressional leaders to confront seemingly intractable tax-and-spend issues.
President Barack Obama will meet at the White House Friday with House and Senate leaders of both parties on the same day the cuts, known in Washington-speak as a ‘‘sequester,’’ take effect. This would put the White House and Congress essentially in the position of looking past the cuts to the next looming fiscal showdown: A March 27 deadline to continue government operations or force a government shutdown.

CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: Well, he did it again. He went back to the corporate jet loophole. Well, I did the math on the way over. If you collected for the hundred years, it will not cover a month of Obama spending, the corporate jet loophole. If you collect it for a century it is less than what Obama spends in a month. It's a joke, it's a way of making a point. It's the old class war stuff, it's meaningless. And it shows when he talks about loopholes all he is interested in is raising taxes so that he can spend.
Ordinarily, it's Republicans who have been interested in closing loopholes ever since the '86 tax reform, where Reagan, and Tip O'Neil, and Rostenkowski, the leading Democrats, agreed on the ultimate in tax reform, which is you close loopholes, and you use that to lower rates. And what you get is a quarter century of the economic expansion as a result.
Obama wants to close loopholes not so he can encourage economic expansion with lower rates of taxation, he wants it so he can spend it on entitlements. He is the entitlement president and what all of this is about is creating enough revenue, increasing American taxation, so that he can have an entitlement state as you have in Europe, which requires the European levels of taxation. He's not interested in debt, he's not interested in cutting, he's not interested in deficits. He wants to spend because he wants expanded state. That's what all of this is about.

This is an Impeachable offense. Jay Carney says that "Career employees" at the HHS authorized the release. Janet Napolitano and Barack Obama didn't know about it. AMAZING! According to the press, Obama is NEVER RESPONSIBLE for ANYTHING!

So "be" we don't cut the jet deduction because it's not too much money? Then why cut anything if it's not too much. Our tax rates are low enough in fact too low. Mine is lower than it has been in my lifetime. So why not cut some of these tax dedections as they are also a form of govt. spending. I'll go along with reform on entitlements that reduce long term spending. The problem right now is we are cutting short term spending in a slow economy. This neither helps the economy nor the deficit. How come you never note the deficit has gone down every year over the past four. To me that remains a problem we don't have honest discussions on this subject whether it is you and I in a comment section or the pols in DC.
