Key part of Voting Rights Act may be overturned

Supreme court justices pose though questions

WASHINGTON — A central provision of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 may be in peril, judging from tough questioning on Wednesday from the Supreme Court’s more conservative members.

If the court overturns the provision, nine states, mostly in the South, would become free to change voting procedures without first getting permission from federal officials.

The Court's "Conservative members" are rhe only ones who believe that the Constitution always means what it says. Wheras the Liberal members say that the Constitution means whatever the NAACP and the ACLU , unions etc say it is

Read Article 1 Section 2, which counts blacks as 3/5 of a person.

Even though that was changed by the 14th Amendment, Constitution "originalists" like Scalia and (amazingly) Thomas like to harken back to the 'original' meaning and intent of the document.  The 14th Amendment was not part of the original document, and not ratified until 1868

If it doesn't hold up to scrutiny it should be overturned.

In a country where it can take hours to vote in certain precincts, voters need all the protections they can get.

Many senior citizens in the South, whose driving licenses have expired, have been denied the right to a new license or identification because they don't have birth certificates!  If you know your history, African-Americans  were denied due process officially for generations!  The original purpose Of the Voting Rights Act was to insure their right to vote!  Now the republican controlled court wants to revert back to what they commonly refer to as "the good old days"!  Disgusting!!!
