ALBANY, N.Y. — National Rifle Association president David Keene told a rally of thousands of opponents of New York’s new gun control law Thursday that his group will help them ensure that the Second Amendment rights passed down to them will be passed on to future generations.
‘‘We’ve lost battles before. We will not lose the war,’’ Keene said. He was cheered by the throng that filled the Albany park west of the Capitol, many arriving on buses from across the state and advocating repeal of one of the toughest gun-control laws in the United States.

Laws that seem perfect for Mayor Bloomberg's NYC make no sense in Keesville, NY. Upsate and Western New York have no need for laws like that. A popular .22 rifle is the venerable Ruger 10-22, a gun with a 10 round magazine. Probably 100's of thousands of kids have grown up with one of these rifles. Perfect for squirrel hunting or for dispatching the occasional woodchuck, especially one who lies about the weather. Banning or registering this gun makes no sense at all. Towns and cities should be allowed to enact their own laws that reflect their needs.
